Prof. Dr Schalkwijk heads the laboratory of Internal Medicine MaastrichtUMC+.
He carries out research on biomarkers in (ongoing and future) cohort studies such as the “Maastricht study”.
In experimental research he focuses on cardiovascular diseases as a result of metabolic diseases.
The Chair for “Experimental Internal Medicine” strengthens the pre-clinical research programme of Internal Medicine. Casper Schalkwijk will accept this position with the delivery of an inaugural lecture on Wednesday 16 May 2012 in the Aula of Maastricht University, Minderbroedersberg 4-6, Maastricht (The Netherlands)
Casper Schalkwijk participates in the TI Food and Nutrition projects A-1003 and A-1004 and is working group leader within the Theme Cardiovascular Health.
