The USA-based company PepsiCo has joined the research consortium TI Food and Nutrition in Wageningen.
Pepsico will participate in the research on the improvement of muscle functions of athletes and the elderly. This research will be performed within the new theme Muscle Health and Function. PepsiCo is in one of the leaders in the top 100 global brands with brands in snacks, breakfast cereals and beverages, and represented in more than 200 countries. Within TI Food and Nutrition PepsiCo will study the performance and improvement of the muscle function within athletes and elderly together with Danone, DSM, Maastricht University and Wageningen University.
These new scientific insights will support the development of foods and interventions for athletes, people with little mobility with fractures, and the frail elderly with low muscle mass and, consequently co-morbidity and disability.
By performing this kind of research, scientists and industry strive to contribute to the improvement of the mobility and independence of the growing elderly population.
