Weight Management

The Weight Management theme seeks a better understanding of the relationship between food intake and weight control. Main research directions are first, nutrient sensing in the gastrointestinal tract - the initial phase in a cascade of signals that lead to the sensation of satiety, of having had enough. Second, the preservation of desired body mass during intentional weight loss and, third, managing fat distribution in the body, which can be strongly associated with obesity-induced metabolic disturbances.

Theme Director Nutrition and Health
"We have a strong scientific basis to push ahead in three themes identified by our industry partners - cardiovascular health, weight management and gastrointestinal health. The Netherlands is leading the way in nutrition research in Europe and all the country’s main centres for nutrition research are partners with TI Food and Nutrition."
